One last point about the WI Supreme Court election… and this is important….
What happened the other day is something you just don’t see in politics… you just don’t. Kloppenburg gained 19 of the Republican counties and jumped up from being over 30 points down since the primaries. That’s huge, especially for a Supreme Court election that most people ignore. The very fact that this election happened right after Scott Walker’s budget proposal and his elimination of collective-bargaining rights did help a bit but what probably won this election (and I say probably due to the inevitable recount) for Kloppenburg was this state-wide progressive grassroots movement and the calls to action on behalf of the Wisconsin democrats. This is the very Wisconsin that got swept up in the Republican corporatist scheme in the November elections and voted Russ Feingold, a 16-year Senator, out of office. I genuinely don’t mean to sound condescending but if you’re not amazed by what you’re seeing in Wisconsin, then perhaps you don’t fully understand politics. This isn’t about Kloppenburg or Prosser - we could replace them with just about anyone. This is about the middle and lower class fighting back and winning. Change is possible and the might behind Washington is not needed to spark a true movement.
