Hiroshima Peace Memorial Service(by Mina Y)
photographer notes:
this is a photo i took at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Service in memory of all those who died as a result of the atomic bombing of the city on august 6th 1945 … the building on the left of the photo on the opposite river bank is the A-Bomb dome … it was the only building left standing in the blast zone after the atomic bomb went off … and even then it was only a shell … it was decided that the building would be preserved in same state as it was post bombing … as a memorial to the events that took place!
every year at the peace festival in Hiroshima people write messages for peace on paper lanterns and float them down the river in memory of all those who died as a result of the atomic bomb … and in hope of a future without nuclear weapons or war! … it was a beautiful event and very moving … i just feel that it is an event which needs to be brought to the attention of the world more than it currently is!
